Microfilm & Microfiche Scanning
Once the format of choice for compressed storage of archival data, microfilm has been superseded by various forms of electronic file which are more compressed, require no specialised equipment, and are very much faster to access, particularly when compiled into a structured, searchable database.
Castle can scan 16mm and 35mm roll film, all microfiche formats, and 35mm aperture cards into a range of electronic file types: pdf, tiff, jpeg, are among the most commonly used. Castle can supply the raw images for uploading into a client’s own EDM system, or construct a database using a proprietary software system such as Alchemy, thereby giving viewing, browsing, searching, printing and e-mailing facilities to the user, either on a dedicated PC or via a local area network.
